Food, and its importance in fostering (FOODtact)

Description
[This course will take you about 2h30mins to complete.]

As a foster carer, you are in a unique position to teach a child and help them achieve everything they can in life. Learning about food, nutrition and how to cook is also a crucial life skill that will help a child with future independence. A good diet can also set up a child for future success. On the other hand, a poor diet can trigger difficult behaviours, poor attainment and even placement breakdowns.

Beyond nutrition and health, food is also a symbol of identity and a fantastic way to show your foster child that you care about them. As a foster carer you will learn, or indeed already know, that food can be a powerful tool in developing your connection with the children in your care.

In this course, you will learn:
- Why healthy food is important.
- How to provide a healthy diet for children you care for.
- About disease, disorders and challenging behaviours related to food.
- How food is important in the development of a child’s identity.
- How you can use food to build trust and a relationship with the child.
