Preparing for a new placement (PREPtact)

Description
[This course will take you about 45 mins to complete.]

As a foster carer, you will discover or have already experienced that there are a number of things you need to do in preparation for a new placement. You need to make sure your home and family is ready to welcome a new child. Finding out about the child, their cultural background and interests will help you to build a strong connection in the early days. It will be a very difficult time for the child when they first arrive at your home, having recently been removed from their family or having been in other foster care placements. As a foster carer, it is your responsibility to make this transition period as comfortable and safe as possible for the child.

In this course, you will learn:
- How to decide if you want to accept the placement.
- How to prepare your home and family for the new placement.
- About registering with a doctor, dentist and optician.
- How to make the child feel safe and nurtured in their new home.
